MENTORSHIP INFORMATION
In this mentorship, the artist will be guided on how to approach Lighting in various context. The focus is on theory, mood, visual language, creative approach and understanding difference between cinematic, game or general lighting work. You can get help with interior and exterior workflow. What will separate you from others is how you communicate emotions, story, shape, form, composition and leading the viewer.
We will test you through reviewing art, photography, film and games to ensure you understand why they are different visually and how to pick a reference over another. You will work on your piece and get guidance on how to improve it. You have to get your hands dirtier by learning how to place your camera in the best place possible to create the best shot for your work, tweaking materials or perhaps figuring out solutions to the problem. I will focus a lot on thought process, feelings, artistic expression while also ensuring you understand how real life light works versus how creative light works. There is less focus on technical skills and technique but more on teaching you to be less tool dependant, or software dependant and still create beautiful work. This approach to mentorship ensure you are independent and can move from different roles or situations much quicker than others.
My goal as a Mentor is to encourage your own sense of style to express your ideas and stories in the way you want to while still challenging you by reminding you that light does not work that way. By understanding how real world works, how games work, how movies work and how it all connects in your approach to lighting. With our time together you can expect to be getting outside of your comfort zone and learning things that will take your work to exciting places whether its for films, games, painting, photography. What I teach can be used in any context.
